Updated: 11:14 PM The boys swimming and diving season came to a spectacular end Saturday for Eau Claire Memorial's Alex DeLakis and Chippewa Falls' Austin Byrd as they both had outstanding performances in taking home state titles.
Updated: 1:22 AM It was an exciting day of sports action, starting at the prep level with State swimming. Eau Claire Memorial's Alex DeLakis and Chippewa Falls's Austin Byrd were the stars down at the UW Natatorium. DeLakis defended his titles in the 200-yard I.M. and 100-yard breaststroke, while Byrd won his 2nd straight title in the 100-yard backstroke. As team, Eau Claire Memorial/North finished 3rd, the best in school history.
In Sectional wrestling, Izzy Balsiger of Chippewa Falls remained undefeated and punched his ticket back to state with another victory.
At the Zorn Arena, the UW-Eau Claire women clinched a share of the WIAC title with a win over Stevens Point, while the men ended their season with an upset of the 12th ranked Pointers. Click here for your local scores and all Sportscene highlights!
Posted: 9:54 PM The WIAA Board of Control approved a recommendation earlier this week to enter into a five-year agreement with the Resch Center in Green Bay as soon as next year if the University of Wisconsin is unable to accommodate the state boys and girls basketball tournaments.
Posted: 11:14 PM Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran's junior Abbie Hein scored 24 points in helping lead the Lancers to a 57-39 victory over Independence Tuesday night. Hein has now scored 1,013 points in her career.
