An action packed Thursday of prep sports! On the ice, Eau Claire Memorial punched their ticket to the state semifinals with a 2-1 win over Whitefish Bay. On the hardwood at a sold out Zorn Arena, Onalaska continued their march for a 2nd straight Division 2 title as the topped Rice Lake in the sectional semifinals. Barron survived a scare against Somerset while Clayton remains undefeated after a win over Prentice. It was a memorable season for the Menomonie high school wrestling program, they captured their first conference title in nearly a half-century, then watched Eric Peissig complete a perfect year, winning a state championship last weekend in Madison. Saturday at the Kohl Center, champions were crowned as WIAA State Wrestling wrapped up at the Kohl Center. Among those taking home state title honors were Eric Peissig of Menomonie, Cal Gerber of Cameron, Jens Lanz of Ellsworth. The Big Rivers Conference will have co-champions in girls basketball, as Eau Claire North topped Hudson 53-47 and Chippewa Falls defeated RIce Lake 55-44 to each claim a share of the conference crown. Click hear to see the highlights from both games plus scores from Thursday night.

The WIAA Division 1 swimming and diving state championships will be held this Saturday at the UW-Natatorium in Madison. Coming off a third place team finish last year, the Eau Claire Memorial/North co-op team will be looking for another high finish this weekend.

The two-time defending FCS national champion North Dakota State Bison snared a trio of Western Wisconsin football standouts today on National Letter of Intent Signing Day. WEAU Sports Director Bob Gallaher has a recap of Wednesday's area signings.

A quick look down the roster of the Cameron girls basketball team might lead you to believe they are inexperienced as the majority of the team are sophomores, but as SportScene13's Jenn Chapman points out, opponents can't take this group lightly. They are 16-0 and this week's Gordy's Athlete of the Week.

In girls prep basketball on Tuesday night, Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran's Abbie Hein surpassed the 1500 point barrier scoring a school-record 35 points in the Lancers victory over Alma/Pepin. In other action, the Regis and Fall Creek girls both win, and in boys hoops, Elk Mound improved to 19-0 with a victory at Bloomer. While in boys hockey, Eau Claire Memorial knocked off Rice Lake 6-3.
