Updated: 01/22/2010 - Lifted by the return of teammate Matt Dickinsen to the bench after a season-ending injury last week, the Fall Creek boys basketball team cooled off a hot Thorp squad Friday night, beating the Cardinals at home, 60-42. In the Big Rivers, Eau Claire Memorial stayed unbeaten by taking care of Chippewa Falls, 51-37. In Eau Claire, the North Huskies gave one more gift to long time head coach Pat Hammond, who was honored at halftime, by beating Menomonie, 59-37. Out at Silvermine Hiil, the 124th Silver Mine Invitational got underway with a thrilling, 99-meter jump from Norwegian competitor Hakon Helgeson.

Updated: 01/15/2010 - The Eau Claire Memorial boys basketball team asserted its claim to the Big Rivers Conference top spot Friday night, moving to 5-0 in conference with a resounding 50-37 win over intracity rival Eau Claire North. Both the Old Abes and Huskies' girls basketball teams would also meet, but this time, Eau Claire North came away with the victory, 43-23. Elsewhere in the Big Rivers girls hoops, Rice Lake ended Menomonie's undefeated start to the season, pulling out a 53-51 win over the Indians. In the Western Cloverbelt, the top four girls basketball teams held strong, as Osseo-Fairchild, Altoona, Fall Creek, and Eau Claire Regis all picked up wins.

Posted: 01/08/2010 - Facing a deficit to start the fourth quarter, the Eau Claire North boys basketball team locked down Chippewa Falls for the final eight minutes, outscoring the Cardinals 17-7 to earn a 37-29 victory and snap a two-game losing streak. The Eau Claire Memorial boys basketball team also picked up a road win in the Big Rivers Friday night, taking down River Falls, 45-37. In the Western Cloverbelt, Division 3's No. 2 team stayed undefeated, as Fall Creek handled Stanley-Boyd, 65-46. Meanwhile, Eau Claire Regis also picked up another conference win, dispatching Altoona, 57-40.
