MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- State wildlife officials want outdoor lovers and hunters to keep a close eye out for birds this summer.

The Department of Natural Resources is asking outdoors users to help the agency monitor the brood production for a number of game birds, including pheasants, quails and turkeys. The DNR asks that anyone who notices these birds to note the sighting on the agency's online Game Bird Observation survey through Aug. 21.

The DNR is especially interested in the type of bird, the county it was in, the number of hens and chicks seen and what the observer was doing when he or she made the sighting. The online survey can be found at http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/wildlife/harvest/brood.htm.

The information is crucial to the DNR's efforts to monitor regional trends and set fall hunting forecasts.
