Burning ban issued for coverage areas of Township Fire and Altoona Fire

(WEAU)-A burning ban is now in place for the coverage areas of Township Fire District and the Altoona Fire Department.

The ban will remain in effect until the fire danger level has been lowered and the risk of wild land fire has diminished. Township Fire Department serves the Townships of Seymour, Washington, Union, Pleasant Valley, Brunswick and parts of Clear Creek in Eau Claire County. The Altoona Fire Department serves the entire City of Altoona.

The DNR forestry division has already elevated the fire danger level in Eau Claire County to VERY HIGH and has suspended burning permits in their managed area.

Township Fire Department is following the DNR’s recommendation and has also suspended the issuance of burning permits along with implementing a ban that only allows cooking fires within a fire ring or fire pit.

Country Jam officials in cooperation with Township Fire Department have also placed a restriction to charcoal and gas grills only on the grounds.

There is no way we received enough rain in this county to lift the ban. The person making these decisions for the DNR are not local and are basing these decisions on poor or incomplete information. Maybe the DNR should listen to people who have eyes on the ground instead of reading incomplete weather reports. The local authorities are looking to the best interests of all citizens over the course of the next week or longer and not just during 5 minutes of sporadic rainfall.

i realise it is very dry out there, but most counties dropped the burning ban, and it is currently raining, so why is the EC area behind the curve,, again?

If you were to venture 10 miles south of EC near Foster, still in EC Co., you would see how brown it is. We've not had any amount of rain for at least two weeks, and going on three. I don't want some knucklehead starting a fire and burning up the whole township.
