DNR releases bear permit numbers

(WEAU) - We now know the exact number of bear permits hunters can get this year.

The DNR says 106,000 people applied and 8,560 hunters will get one. Its harvest goal is 4,000 bears, down from last year. As we told you earlier this week, northern Wisconsin’s bear population has been cut down, so the DNR will issue fewer permits there, but more permits in other zones.

The DNR says it has seen record number of bears harvested.
