More than 100 wolves killed during hunt

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The state says more than 100 wolves have been killed during Minnesota's first managed wolf hunt.

The Department of Natural Resources says 109 wolves have been taken in the first eight days of the hunt, which includes 47 in the northeast hunting zone. The Duluth News Tribune says the seasonal quota for that zone is 58 wolves.

The statewide quota is 200 wolves for the early hunting season, which ends Nov. 18 or when the quota is reached. A second wolf hunting season, along with a trapping season, will begin Nov. 24 and continue through Jan. 31. That harvest will also be capped at 200 wolves.

In Wisconsin, wolf hunters and trappers had taken 64 wolves through Sunday night. The maximum harvest for the season that ends Jan. 31 is 116.
