Natural Resources Board to vote on wolf hunt rules

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The state Natural Resources Board is poised to vote on rules for Wisconsin's new wolf hunt.

Gov. Scott Walker signed a bill earlier this year that calls for the Department of Natural Resources to set a wolf season that runs form Oct. 15 through the end of February. The legislation sets up permit fees and allows hunters to use dogs and traps and hunt at night. The measure left the total harvest and permit limits to the DNR.

The agency has proposed rules that set the harvest limit at 201 wolves across six management zones. The agency would give out 2,010 permits.

The board is set to vote on the rules at a meeting in Stevens Point on Tuesday.
