MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The state Department of Natural Resources' board has given the agency permission to revise Wisconsin's endangered species list.

The DNR has proposed removing 16 species that have established stable populations or are no longer present in Wisconsin. Some of the species include the barn owl, the snowy egret and Butler's garter snake. The agency also has proposed adding eight species with declining populations to the list, including the black tern, the upland sandpiper and the beach-dune tiger beetle.

The Natural Resources Board voted unanimously at a meeting Wednesday to authorize the department to start drafting the changes. The board will have to sign off on the final list when it's completed.
