MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The state Natural Resources Board has decided to let people leave trail cameras overnight on public land.

People have been prohibited from leaving cameras overnight on Department of Natural Resources-managed land. But outdoor lovers have been pressing the agency to soften its stance as the devices grow in popularity.

Earlier this spring the Wisconsin Conservation Congress, a group of influential sportsmen who advise the DNR, approved leaving cameras overnight on DNR land.

The Natural Resources Board, which sets policy for the DNR, voted 7-0 at a meeting Wednesday in Madison to allow cameras to remain on agency land overnight.

if you see so reason why you shouldnt leave your $300 game cam on public property for any length of time, go ahead and put it out there. you will find out shortly why its a bad idea.

I don't care if people leave their cameras on public land or not but be prepared when you go to check your camera that it may not be there. we had ours on our private land and someone stole it.

Hope they make people identify the cameras because it would sure be unfortunate if they were confused for abandoned property.

Hope people get smarter and realize a camera strapped to a tree is not "abandoned" like a broken TV set dumped in the brush.
