Eau Claire's Paul Menard currently stands in 13th place in NASCAR's Sprint Cup standings, on the outside looking in for the "Race for the Chase". And while there is still plenty of time to make a run at the top ten, Paul admits his Richard Childress Racing team must improve. That begins Saturday night at Daytona.
Paul Menard says: "Daytona, Talladega.. kind of bittersweet, we really don't like that style of racing but in the same token, it's Daytona, it's a huge race for us. We've run pretty well there the past few years, had good cars, qualified well, and came away with three straight top tens..."
Entering Saturday night's Sprint Cup Coke Zero 400 at Daytona, Menard and the 27 car should have some good vibes, Paul brought home a 6th place finish back in February in the Daytona 500. Finding suitable drafting partners and staying out of wrecks are always the key on tracks like Daytona.
Paul Menard says: "You have to manage the draft which is pretty tough trying to figure out where you need to be and in the same token, you're riding in this big pack and if one person wrecks, it's easy to get caught up pretty quick in it. A little bit frustrating type of racing but it can be a lot of fun."
