For Paul Menard, the start to the Sprint Cup season has had it's ups and downs. On Racing Weekly, the Eau Claire native looks back at the season so far and looks ahead to this weeks race at Bristol .
It's been a three week roller coaster ride for paul menard....at Daytona he patiently drove his #27 Chevrolet to a 6th place finish....only to have his luck change next week as he got caught up in a wreck at Phoenix and finished 33rd...But this past week, after being involved in a off track accident in Colorado, he kept his fenders straight and got back on track as he raced his way to a 7th place finish at Las Vegas..
"It was an up and down week for sure, an up and down weekend. Really didn't qualify very well. Kind of made some changes overnight because we weren't very happy with the car and wound up being pretty good from he start. Pretty happy with it the way everything went. I think we had a top 5 car, but we battled back to finish 7th after being 17th with about 10 laps to go, I am pretty satisfied with that."
This week the drivers of the Sprint Cup head to thunder valley at Bristol Motor Speedway...Last year Menard led 35 laps at the trecherous short track on his way to a 5th place finish and hopes to duplicate that success this weekend...
"Yeah, we had a pretty good run in the spring, came back with the same set up in August in the 2nd race and struggled. We are not taking a lot of what we learned last year, we are just going and doing our own deal again in the spring, this race, hopefully it is the right approach."
And after three of 36 races...Menard sits in a comfortable 11th place in the points standings..
