For sprint cup driver Denny Hamlin, getting a victory at Phoenix this past week was a big relief. After finish 2nd in the championship chase in 2010, he one just once last year and finished 9th in the chase standings. Hamlin hopes the Phoenix win is the start of big things to come.
"It kind of reminds me of 2010 when we were winning at tracks that no one expected us to win at, we were starting to be race winners at tracks we hadn't before. It seems like throughout my career, when we lock on to one race track and we win, we win multiple times there. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come later"
Kevin Harvick finished second at Phoenix after running out of gas making a last ditch charge to catch Denny Hamlin. Though his team didn't get the win, Harvick was happy that a fuel strategy gamble still got them a great finish.
"When you come out of caution and they tell you are 9 laps short, you really don't think that there is a possiblitly that you will make it, but a couple cautions, a little bit of saving and a little bit of tighter crunch on the numbers we fell about a lap short. Those are the types of things you have to do to take some chances, when you are close enough to coast around, they did a great job."
This week the drivers are in Las Vegas, where Carl Edwards is the defending race winner.
