Kevin Hurd Bios

Kevin Hurd joined WEAU in November 2011 as a Multimedia Journalist.

He comes to the Chippewa Valley from Central Minnesota where he had lived most of his life. He grew up in Sartell, MN and attended college at St. Cloud State University. Go Huskies!
While in school, he reported, anchored and produced shows for his college's daily news show, UTVS News. He was also a news and music host on the campus radio station, KVSC, for several years.
Kevin has always seen himself as a reporter and storyteller. While at UTVS, he was involved with covering the floods in Fargo, ND, the impact of the economy on youth and helped cover local visits from politicians during the 2008 election He has been recognized for his work by the Minnesota Associated Press and was awarded the Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi Award for a radio documentary on the state of the local economy.
While in school, Kevin interned at KARE-TV in Minneapolis. It was there he learned from reporters and photojournalists how to tell a story and not just report it.

In 2010, Kevin interned with NBC News in Washington D.C. While there, he helped report on the early start of the 2012 presidential race by writing daily political stories and doing some deeper reporting for MSNBC's political blog, First Read.

Kevin also worked with the St. Cloud Times as a Videographer before graduating from school.

In his free time, Kevin enjoys working on the computer, video production, biking, golf and taking walks. He spent four months living and traveling in South Korea and can read Korean but is still working on his speaking skills.
