Joe Nelson joined WEAU in April 2012.
Before moving to Eau Claire, Joe was an anchor/reporter at KSAX in Alexandria, MN. While there, some of Joe's stories gained international attention and were later reported by dozens of other media outlets including one about a man who teaches "build your own casket" classes, and another about a mysterious dead creature that captured the imaginations of millions, quickly becoming the most read story ever on the station's website, and gaining its own National Geographic Wild special to air in the fall of 2012.
Joe graduated from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities in 2009 and interned at WCCO and Fox 9, and also worked for CBS News during the 2008 Republican National Convention. He also reported for the U of M's student newspaper, The Minnesota Daily.
Joe grew up in Winthrop, Minnesota, a town of about 1,300 people in the south central part of the state.
In his spare time, Joe loves to play and watch basketball and cheer on his favorite teams: the Twins, Wolves, Gophers and Vikings.
Joe loves finding and telling unique stories in a way that brings peoples' true emotions into your living room. He's always looking for a great story to tell that may otherwise go unnoticed and hopes to get to know the Chippewa Valley inside and out.
