Hello Western Wisconsin and the Chippewa Valley! Having grown up in New England, I’m happy to be in a part of the country that reminds me of home and the beautiful outdoors, with plenty of lakes, hills and forests.

My meteorology and forecasting career began in 1997 and includes both the media and private sector. My TV career began in Lima, Ohio where I was chief meteorologist at the only station in the market. It was a great place to develop and fine-tune my on-air skills, where I dealt with everything from blizzards and ice storms to floods and tornadoes.. perfect, we experience all those things here too!
I received my B.S. in Atmospheric Science from Central Connecticut State University, along with a certificate in broadcasting from the Connecticut Schools of Broadcasting. I am a member of the American Meteorological Society and earned their certified broadcast meteorologist designation in 2009.

Outside of my professional life, I try and stay pretty busy, with various seasonal interests. My hobbies include tennis, vegetable gardening, and my most recent interest.. tropical fish. On the top of my list are my two children, Shane and Samantha, who mean the world to me.. keeping me on my toes, and young at heart.
I know I'm in Packer territory, but anyone who knows me will tell you I cheer on the Patriots.. (and for that matter, the Red Sox..) and look forward to getting to Minneapolis and Green Bay for a game or two. I also enjoy watching professional tennis.
In addition to meeting new people, I look forward to getting to know the area and local culture in time, and really experience what Western Wisconsin has to offer. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and love for meteorology with the public, and welcome requests from area schools, groups and organizations to give talks. I’ve always enjoyed my connection with viewers and look forward to hearing from you.. So, whether it’s a unique weather experience, observation or just a plain ‘ole hello, feel free to drop me a line at the station or send an email to darren.maier@weau.com.
