Kurt comes to us by way of WISN 12 in Milwaukee, where he spent a year and a half behind the scenes under the invaluable tutelage of WISN Chief Meteorologist Mark Baden.
Born and raised in the capitol city of Madison, Wisconsin, Kurt is very familiar with and greatly enjoys forecasting for the ever changing and challenging weather conditions the state of Wisconsin is both blessed and cursed with. “Wisconsin has got to be the only place where it can be 60 degrees and sunny one day, then 30 degrees and snowing the very next!”
Kurt went to college at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he spent the first two years of his college life playing collegiate-level volleyball for their team. He eventually dropped volleyball to focus solely on his schoolwork, and was awarded his B.S. in Atmospheric Sciences in May of 2004. After spending his senior year assisting Professor Vincent E. Larson with research on altocumulus clouds, Kurt made the decision to continue on with his research in the Graduate Program at UW-Milwaukee, earning his Master of Science Degree in Atmospheric Sciences in May of 2006. From his research, Kurt has been the co-author of two published papers, and was invited to present his Master’s Thesis at the American Meteorological Society’s 12th Conference on Atmospheric Radiation & Cloud Physics in July of 2006. Kurt also won the Graduate Division of the Collegiate National Weather Forecasting Competition for Tulsa, OK.
When he’s not forecasting your weather, you can often find Kurt spending time with his friends and family, or out and about somewhere playing volleyball, basketball, golfing, or running. Now that he’s near the rivers and the outdoors of the Northwoods, Kurt hopes to take up some new adventures in whitewater rafting, camping, and golf, when the snow melts!
Kurt would love to hear from you! You can e-mail him at kurt.kotenberg@weau.com.
