We would like to nominate Velma Atchkinson in the Environmental Services Department at Luther Hospital for the Sunshine Award.

She is a breast cancer survivor. She is just now growing her hair back. She went through all the medical hoops that are required of a cancer patient. She is an inspiration to many of us and she has a sense of humor you would not believe.

Because of her work ethic she was absent for the surgical part of the illness, but only missed a couple of days after that even when she went through chemotherapy.

She still has days when you know it’s tough for her but she still comes to work because that’s what she’s about. We love her dearly and we want her to know just how special she really is to us.
