The Digital Television transition is underway with the final change over in February of 2009. For those who watch TV solely by an antenna system or use an antenna as part of there Cable or Satellite you may need to make some changes to how you receive your TV signals.
Essentially, local broadcasters like WEAU-TV 13 broadcast TV over-the-air waves using an analog signal and in February of 2009 that analog signal will be shut down and local stations will only use a digital signal. An older analog TV will no longer receive those over-the-air or antenna stations unless you convert the new digital signal to analog to be compatible with your TV. Special converter boxes are now available at some of the large electronic retail stores such as K-mart, Best Buy, Radio Shack, Circuit City, Target, Sears and Wal-mart. The cost of these converter boxes ranges between $50 and $100.
The Federal government is offering every household the opportunity to receive two $40 coupons as a discount to the converter box.
