Global Positioning Systems (GPS) are a navigational utility that can pinpoint your current position and navigate you towards a destination. They computerized units that use satellites to triangulate positions. GPS units are commonly used for driving, walking, biking, hunting, fishing and any navigational activity.
The GPS units themselves come in a Varity of sizes and styles.
Handheld-portable (picture #1) are convenient and easy to use.
Automotive (picture #2) can be integrated into a radio system or mounted separately. These units can give you vocal roadmap directions to your destinations.
Mountable (picture #3) can be installed into cars, semis, boats, bikes, etc
Fishing (picture #4) removable boat unit that can be integrated with other fish tracking and boat technology
A GPS unit can also be integrated with surface maps. This is especially helpful in vehicles because you can see the actual roads and routes you’ll take to your destination. You can search for locations or you can mark a spot you were previously at. In a hunting/fishing situation if you find a hot spot you can mark your location and your GPS will navigate you back to that location.
Some GPS units get periodic updates to account for road and surface changes. These updates come as internet downloads, chip replacements, or on a compact disk. Check with your GPS manufacture on how to update your system.
