The spirit of friendliness and good cheer is just around the corner as the 11th annual Black River Area Oktoberfest takes place Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017.

This festival has continued to grow and is one of the of the area's most popular fall celebrations. To accommodate that growth and to offer even more activities, the event has been moved to the Jackson County Fair Park. The livestock arena will provide a weatherproof spot for vendors, food and entertainment.

Scheduled events include a car show - which is getting bigger every year -children's inflatables, medieval knight demonstrations and of course plenty of music, food and fun.

"We made some big changes in the past few years with this festival, which continues to draw larger crowds and overwhelmingly positive response," said Chris Hardie, executive director of the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce. "Come and celebrate Wisconsin's German heritage, enjoy music, food, crafts, inflatables - and of course beer from Sand Creek Brewing Company."

Back this year will be Oktoberfest Market Haus, a large event for craft and artisan vendors. Returning will be the medieval tournament knight fights performing throughout the day.

The day's events begin at 9:30 a.m. with Dave Kiral performing. Outside will be the "Things that Roll" car and motorcycle show. Other entertainment will be the Black River High School Band at 11:30 a.m., Gary's Ridgeland Dutchmen from 12:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. and also playing from 3:30 to 5. In between will be the Dance Stars from the Marilyn School of Dance from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. Interfaith will hold a live auction to sell pies from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. and the band "A Hundred Sows & Bucks" will perform from 6 p.m. to close.

Other events include the tapping of the golden keg at 1 p.m., strolling magic and balloons by Kris Wrobel from 1 to 4 p.m., Fevolden Farm Alpacas, a photo booth from 1:30 to 9:30, shuttle rides to Sand Creek Brewery, horse-drawn wagon rides through downtown - where you can guess the weight of the giant pumpkin -- a Black River Falls Police Department K-9 Unit brat sale and fundraiser and much more.

An Oktoberfest kick-off party will be 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6 at Sand Creek Brewery with food by Smokin' Classix BBQ and music from "Toner."

Sand Creek Brewing Company is located at 320 Pierce Street in Black River Falls, and is one of the main sponsors of the event, along with the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce.
