Jeff Nelson is planning two sessions of a third watercolor class at the Heyde Center for the Arts in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Beginner to advanced level artists are welcome to attend. This class covers techniques including washes, wet into wet, masking, hand cut stamps, rigger brushes, and gouache. By the end of the class each participant will be able to leave with a completed painting. Assistance with framing the completed work with framing materials provided by participants will also be available with prior arrangement with the instructor. The first session of the class will be held September 18, 2017 (All day, from 9:00 AM – 3 PM). The second session of the class will be held on two days, September 19 and 20, 2017(Mornings from 9:00 AM – 12:00 noon each day.) Class size is limited to 10 students for each session. Cost of the class will be $50.00 for either the one-day sessions or the two-day morning session. If you prefer the art materials to be provided by the instructor, the cost of the class is $60.00.
There has been interest shown in framing the finished piece. If you are interested in this option, please indicate by return email. If you supply the frame, I'll help you deckle your painting and mount it in your frame. If you have a frame you'd choose for this project, your painting would need to be appropriate to your frame size.

L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in Eau Claire
“American School Girl” features a series of acrylic and mixed-media paintings that represents Sue Cranston’s version of childhood experiences for a young girl. It combines her memories of growing up in Wisconsin, her experiences teaching in the classroom, and her life as a daughter and mother. Exhibit may be viewed during regular library hours.

Open House and Reception: Thursday, September 28 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. 
This exhibit is a retrospective of the artwork of Hugh Mandelert, which has been generously loaned to the Heyde Center from the private collections of community members. The theme of the exhibit “Art and Addiction” serves as a catalyst for a community exploration and a dialogue of chemical dependency issues in the Chippewa Valley, hopefully leading to second-chances. Hugh Mandelert’s status as a “favorite son” and a recovering alcoholic can help decrease the stigma our society puts on people with chemical dependency; foster conversations that are too often kept behind closed doors; lift up the power of compassion, relationship and community support; replace castigation with rehabilitation; and explore ways to help each other artfully move forward one step at a time. Participants in the Chippewa County Drug Court will be exhibiting their artwork in the galleries on the third floor. No cost for admission to the exhibit.
