Blue Canvas Art Studio--Banbury Place BLDG 13 Suite 15
Fall is nearly here and it is time to start dressing up your attire with a scarf. We are thrilled to announce a new adult workshop. We will be combining the art forms of Batik Fabric Design and Silk Painting to create a one of a kind scarf.

There are two workshops available (9/6 and 10/4).

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Batik, it is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to whole cloth. The applied wax resists dyes and therefore allows the artisan to color selectively by painting or soaking the cloth in dye. The wax is later removed from the cloth with boiling water leaving the design in the fabric. A tradition of making batik is found in various countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Sri Lanka, Philippines and Nigeria. This is truly a unique form of artwork and is very exciting and inexpensive to practice. Through this workshop you will design your own custom silk scarf that measures 11"x60".

Learn a new skill and walk away with a piece of wearable art!
Cost is $40/ with 20$ per additional scarf

The Mavericks

Event Dates and Times

9/27/2017 - Starts: 8:00 PM - Ends: 10:00 PM
Eau Claire State Theatre, 316 Eau Claire St., Eau Claire, WI 54701
The genre-defying Mavericks are declaring their independence and stepping out on their own with Brand New Day, the first studio album released on Mono Mundo Recordings, the label they founded in 2016. Brand New Day is the follow-up to the widely praised albums Mono (2015) and In Time (2013).
Flashing the same exhilarating, beyond-category style that has defined the Mavericks, the new album introduces a collection of taut, energetic, economical songs sure to be embraced by both original fans of their top-10 albums and hit singles of the '90s and a new generation of listeners who have joined the party since their triumphant 2012 reunion. It is the mature and timely work of an exciting and underestimated American band that has embraced its own destiny.
"This is the first studio record on our own label, and it is an important component in the band's history," Malo says, "but the real goal was just to make a great record."
The new collection - co-produced like its immediate predecessors by the band's golden-voiced singer Raul Malo and Niko Bolas (Neil Young, Warren Zevon, Melissa Etheridge), who is partnered with the band in the new Mono Mundo imprint - features the core members of the group since their reformation: Malo, drummer Paul Deakin, guitarist Eddie Perez, and keyboardist Jerry Dale McFadden, along with auxiliary members "the Fantastic Four" filling out the set's brawny sound with their signature accordion and horns.

Open House and Reception: Thursday, September 28 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
This exhibit is a retrospective of the artwork of Hugh Mandelert, which has been generously loaned to the Heyde Center from the private collections of community members. The theme of the exhibit “Art and Addiction” serves as a catalyst for a community exploration and a dialogue of chemical dependency issues in the Chippewa Valley, hopefully leading to second-chances. Hugh Mandelert’s status as a “favorite son” and a recovering alcoholic can help decrease the stigma our society puts on people with chemical dependency; foster conversations that are too often kept behind closed doors; lift up the power of compassion, relationship and community support; replace castigation with rehabilitation; and explore ways to help each other artfully move forward one step at a time. Participants in the Chippewa County Drug Court will be exhibiting their artwork in the galleries on the third floor. No cost for admission to the exhibit.
