Date(s): 6/26/2015

The Volume One Gallery located inside the Local Store at the Volume One World Headquarters, 205 N. Dewey St. Eau Claire, 54703
The Crops Look Good: News from a Midwestern Family Farm by Sara DeLuca, who grew up in rural Polk County and attended UWEC, is an intimate portrayal of one extended family. It is broadly representative of Upper Midwest family farming during four tumultuous decades. The story is based a collection of family letters and takes readers through the Roaring 20s, the “Dirty Thirties”, World War II, and into a period of relative peace and prosperity at mid-century. The author will read excerpts and be glad to address questions about her writing process and ways in which we can all help to preserve family and regional heritage.

Location: Tiny Tots Playhouse
Days: Wednesdays
Time: 3pm - 6pm

Dear Parents,
My Playhouse doors are open to EVERY child & family that wish to visit.
I wish to start a super fun "Sunshine Days Playgroup". This special playgroup time will only be open to families/caregivers with children of any age on any level of the autism scale.

If physician diagnosed or families gut feeling that their child has some form of autism, "Sunshine Days" has been lovingly created just for you.

Since opening our Playhouse doors May 2014, I have been involved with many parents' conversations regarding children with autism. Sadly I have witnessed firsthand how the lack of knowledge & heart effects interaction & cruel reaction between families. Being so blessed to be the owner of the Playhouse, I have always followed my own mothers phrase of
"Seek to Understand".
Bring you child and have a fun play date, let your child be him or herself. 'Let's Dance Like No One is Watching", let it be OK if you child "Blows Up", meet other families, talk and be supported by other parents/caregivers. Let this be a positive fun visit for everyone.

Lets get this playgroup started. Please message me if wishing to enroll. I need at least 10 kiddo's to make this happen
Love & Blessings

My name is Ryan Walker and behalf of myself and the team up here at TGiFridays in Eau Claire we would like to invite the community in helping out a young lady named Trisha Seefeld, Trisha has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and will be spending 3 weeks of each month in the hospital and needs a bone marrow transplant, she also will be unable to work 6 months to a year. I got to speak to Sue; Trisha's mother this last week and have been on a mission ever since to do everything in my position as a community member to lessen the financial burden so her and her family can focus on a speedy and healthy recovery. Up here as a staff we are a handful of individuals but as a community we are much more than that! Ask a Scientist: Pi is Transcendental

Date(s): 4/15/2015

7 p.m.

Acoustic Cafe, Eau Claire
Dr. aBa Mbirika, professor of math at UW-Eau Claire, will present "Pi is Transcendental – not like Emerson or Thoreau, but in the math sense" as part of the university's "Ask A Scientist" educational series April 15 at 7 p.m. at the Acoustic Café.

Mbirika will discuss the number pi, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, and what makes it a transcendental number. He insists that while math terms and symbols may seem "scary" to some, the presentation will be accessible to a non-math audience.

The event is free of charge and open to all.

For more information, contact aBa Mbirika at mbirika@uwec.edu or 715-836-2835.

Getting to Know Mosses

Date(s): 4/26/2015

2:00 - 4:00 PM

Beaver Creek Reserve, Citizen Science Center, S1 Cty Road K, Fall Creek, WI 54742
Wisconsin is loaded with different kinds of moss and here’s our chance to learn about them. UWEC Professor, Dr. Joseph Rohrer, has spent years studying moss and he will describe what makes mosses different from other plants, how they reproduce and spread, where they grow, their value in the world, and how to identify common species. The workshop will include an indoor classroom period, followed by a trip outdoors to observe and identify local mosses around the Reserve. Register early as there will be space for only 16 attendees, allowing Dr. Rohrer time to help each participant with moss identification. The workshop will be based largely on the recently published field guide, Common Mosses of the Northeast and Appalachians, which is for sale in the BCR Nature Center. Copies will be available for participant use.
