Snoezelen Therapy Room
On May 27, 2015 at 2pm Milestone Senior Living Suites will celebrate it’s newest edition to our Holistic Approach to Aging Seniors who may have Alzheimer’s or other dementias. The Snoezelen therapy room is located at 5510 Renee Drive Eau Claire WI 54703 at the Milestone Senior Living campus. Snoezelen therapy was first used in the Netherlands for autistic children. Since then the Snoezelen therapy was used with people who have Alzheimer’s or other dementias successfully either in calming or stimulating senses.
"I am so excited about this room, it offers so many different possibilities—for some it can be a low-stimulation environment offering peace and tranquility needed if overly anxious, while others may receive a variety of activities to stimulate their senses” said Community Director/LPN Kelly Rohwedder. Milestone Senior Living has always used a variety of homeopathic therapies, along with the addition of this room, we can offer even more non medication interventions to every day anxieties and depression.
"We are the first in the area to research and embrace this new way of treating people with anxiety," said Kelly Rohwedder LPN/Community Director "Seeing the animals and birds that are hiding in the mural, feeling the objects hidden in the colored rice, smelling the lavender throughout the room or hearing the soft sounds of nature is all so calming and yet so stimulating, it has decreased our need for anti-anxiety medications, that have so many side effects on the elderly.”
Milestone Senior Living Apartments and Suites are located at 5510 and 5512 Renee Drive in Eau Claire, and specializes in the senior and memory care. For more information about the Milestone, visit their website at www.MileStoneSeniorLiving.com

OKLAHOMA! Music by Richard Rodgers | Book by Oscar Hammerstein II | Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II | Original Dances by Agnes de Mille | Based on the play "Green Grow the Lilacs" by Lynn Riggs Friday and Saturday, July 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 19 at 2:00 p.m. Set in the West just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. Although the road to true love never runs smooth, with these two headstrong romantics holding the reins, love's journey is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road. That they will succeed in making a new life together we have no doubt, and that this new life will begin in a brand-new state provides the ultimate climax to the triumphant OKLAHOMA! Karst Geology

Date(s): 5/30/2015

9:00 am. - 4:30 p.m.

Driftless Folk School, Viroqua Wisconsin
The bedrock of our Driftless Area include dolomites and limestones that are continually dissolved by water, creating interconnected cracks and layers. The resulting “karst”landscape includes sinkholes, caves, disappearing streams, and coldwater trout springs. Deeper rocks of the Driftless include sandstones that serve as our groundwater aquifers. These formations are now being mined for “frac” sand used to extract oil and gas from shales in many states outside the Driftless. Unfortunately, our beautiful karst geology facilitates the passage into our groundwater aquifers of pollutants generated by frac sand mining and careless farming. And once polluted, our aquifers will remain polluted forever. Join us to learn about our local landscape. One hour lecture discussion followed by examination of geologic formations and karst features in the field.

Date(s): 6/18/2015

8-10 p.m.

Beaver Creek Reserve, Citizen Science Center, S1 Cty Road K, Fall Creek, WI 54742
Wisconsin bats use echolocation to hunt and navigate. Bats echolocate in the ultrasonic range, making it inaudible to humans. Using a handheld ultrasonic detector, bat calls can be captured and translated to a particular species based on frequency, shape and other characteristics. With the newly introduced White-nose Syndrome in the state, the Citizen Science Center is helping Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources collect important data to better understand these obscure, flying mammals. This program will begin with a short educational presentation on the bats of Wisconsin. Then join us on a night hike as we conduct an Acoustic Bat Survey, updating the Reserve’s bat species list.
