Paint-a-Palooza (Acrylics)

Date(s): 8/17/2014

6:30-8:30 pm

Heyde Center for the Arts, 3 South High Street, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729

Look out Chippewa Falls because we are unleashing more new artists into the Chippewa Valley!

The June 25 and July 16 kick off of our Paint-A-Palooza class was a HUGE success with people asking for more classes in July and August. The Heyde Center is partnering with the Valley Art Association to offer different types of classes for an art experience you will not forget. Come spend two hours trying your hand at acrylic or watercolor painting - or perhaps you'd like to try pastels or colored pencils. At the end of the night, you will have had a fun evening and you will go home with your own work of art!

The Heyde Center strives to provide opportunities for community members to discover their creative side by trying different types of arts classes in a fun, non-threatening atmosphere. We are all creative in our own way and our art is equally valuable, regardless of whether we have a song in the "top ten music chart" or have our artwork hanging in a museum.

Register early as class sizes are limited to 12 people! Payment must be made in advance and is not refundable; however, if someone is unable to attend the class he/she signed up for, he/she can choose a class on another date.

Northern Wisconsin State Fairgrounds, Chippewa Falls WI
GMC motorhomes are "classic" motorhomes as they were only made from 1973-78. They were the first front wheel drive, aluminum body made. We get together twice a year in various locations around the United States. Members come from all over the US, Australia, and Canada. Some coaches are in the original condition as others have been restored. It's a unique opportunity for those who love "classic" cars to see these beautiful motorhomes. I'd love to arrange an on camera interview with someone, if it worked out as well as have a camera crew come to our event and talk with some of our folks.

Bruce Taylor Reading: In Other Words

7pm

The Volume One Gallery Located inside the Local Store at the Volume One World Headquarters, 205 N. Dewey St. Eau Claire, 54703
Bruce Taylor is one of Eau Claire's most visible poets, as the current poet laureate for the city, and an accomplished author of nine collections of poetry. His newest, In Other Words, consists of five sections, each of which is based upon a previously existing text. Whether an encyclopedia of gardening, the journals of a Trappist monk, the notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci or the odes of a Persian mystic, the original writings serve as a source and inspiration for Taylor's poems, which in various ways explore the human relationship with the divine.

7:30-9 pm

Heyde Center for the Arts, 3 South High Street, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729
Six of the singers from Eliza’s Toyes will help us celebrate the holiday season with a cappella English sacred music from the medieval period through early Renaissance music. They reinvigorate these ancient works with their lively performances and show that madrigals are fun! In the summer of 2005, a few singers in the Madison Early Music Festival decided to get together and delight themselves by singing madrigals. As a result the group, Eliza’s Toyes, was born, and continues to share this wonderful body of music. Website: www.toyes.info

Heyde Center for the Arts, 3 South High Street, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729
Are the dead walking among us in Chippewa Falls? What has been causing the flickering lights, rattling windows and randomly flushing toilets at Heyde Center for the Arts? Who is the restless soul who wanders the halls unseen moaning ghostly songs? Must this spirit INSIST on only singing show-tunes, especially ones from Annie Get Your Gun over and over again - always just a little off-key until everyone has been driven completely batty? Seriously, it has GOT to stop or there is going to be heck to pay. With your help, silly psychic Madam Mirabella will answer these questions and more in a family-friendly, frighteningly funny and interactive night you'll never forget. RESTREPO is a feature-length documentary that chronicles the deployment of a platoon of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan's Korengal Valley. Winners of two Emmys and the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary at Sundance Film Festival, the movie focuses on a remote 15-man outpost, "Restrepo," named after the platoon medic who was killed in action. This is an entirely a experiential film: the cameras never leave the valley. The only goal is to make viewers feel as if they have just been through a 90-minute deployment. This is war, full stop. The conclusions are up to you. National Geographic Films Admission: FREE but tickets are required - please reserve tickets by calling 715-726-9000, emailing cvca@cvca.net, or stop by the office. The Lady With All the Answers

Date(s): 10/14/2014

7 pm

Heyde Center for the Arts, 3 South High Street, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729
This one-woman show provides a compelling portrait of this folksy, funny, frank, and slightly eccentric writer and personality. Eppie Lederer was born in Sioux City, Iowa, and for several years was a happy mid-western housewife. When her family moved to Chicago, she applied for a job to assist the woman writing the syndicated "Ann Landers" advice column for the Chicago Sun-Times. But the woman had just died and Eppie was hired to write the column--and she also inherited the Ann Landers pen-name. At the height of her popularity, Ann Landers was read by some 90 million people. Her daily dialog with America helped shape the social landscape for almost half a century. Website: answerladyontour.com Admission: $16 Adults, $15 Seniors, $10 Youth

The Highground, W7031 Ridge Rd, Neillsville WI 54456
From August 13 – 17, The Highground will host, during all four days, “The Wall That Heals” Vietnam Memorial Wall; “The Wall of Remembrance” memorial wall to those who were killed in the Global War on Terror conflicts beginning with The Gulf War and all civilians killed in the attacks of 9/11; and The Canadian Vietnam Memorial Wall.
“The Wall That Heals” is a half-scale replica, approximately 250 feet long, of The Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. The names of all the United States military personnel that were killed in action in the Vietnam War are on “The Wall”. There is also a large exhibit accompanying “The Wall That Heals”. This memorial wall and exhibit has allowed thousands of veterans who have been unable to cope with the prospect of facing The Wall to find the strength and courage to do so within their own communities, thus allowing the healing process to begin.
“The Wall of Remembrance” has never before been in Wisconsin prior to this upcoming event. It is a profound emotional exhibit that pays tribute to the U.S. casualties on the Global War on Terror. It is 95 feet long and includes over 9,750 names of the fallen from Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn and all those killed in the attacks of 9/11.
These two memorial walls along with The Canadian Vietnam Memorial Wall will all be present at The Highground from Aug 13 – 18th, the first time that all three walls have ever been exhibited together. On August 12th, all three walls will travel with a formal escort of over 100 motorcycles and other vehicles on a 187 mile procession to The Highground. The walls will begin their procession at Valley View Mall - JC Penney parking lot in Onalaska / La Crosse at 8am on Aug. 12th. There will be several one-hour stops at cities along the escort route. These stops, where the public can show their support and view the exhibit accompanying “The Wall That Heals” will be at Walmart in Sparta at 10am, the VA Hospital in Tomah at 11:45am, Rapids Mall – JC Penney parking lot in Wisconsin Rapids at 2:45pm, Target in Stevens Point at 4:30pm. The escort and the three memorial walls are scheduled to arrive at The Highground in Neillsville at 6:15pm.
The public is invited to share in this momentous event by visiting the walls at The Highground, W7031 Ridge Rd, Neillsville during The Week of Honor & Remembrance August 13 – 18. People may also show their support for our veterans and those who were lost by viewing the exhibit during one of the many escort stops and/or welcoming the escort along its journey. If you would like to be a part of the escort or would like more information on The Week of Honor & Remembrance daily events, please contact June or Theresa at The Highground at 715-743-4224, highgrnd@tds.net or go online to www.thehighground.org for updates.
You will not want to miss this unprecedented important chance to gather with others to support veterans and honor our fallen brothers and sisters.

Young Frankenstein, officially known as The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein, is a musical with a book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan and
music and lyrics by Brooks. It is based on the 1974 comedy film of the same name written by Brooks and Gene Wilder and directed by Brooks, who
has described it as his best film.

It is a parody of the horror film genre, especially the 1931 Universal Pictures adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and its 1939 sequel, Son of Frankenstein.
