End of Life Care
12:30 to 4:30 pm
Sleep Inn and Suites Conference Center, Eau Claire WI
Professionals who work in hospice care or palliative care have intense contact with persons who are facing critical decisions as they see the end of life approaching. This puts into sharp focus the boundaries of the relationships among the professional, the client, and the client’s family. This workshop explores the dimensions of those relationships and the implications for professional ethics in regard to client autonomy, self-determination, information-sharing, advanced directives, assisted suicide, “pull-the-plug” decisions, and other issues. Participants are invited to bring their own scenarios and to engage in small-group exercises in ethical decision making.
