Join the club! This enrichment opportunity is open to children ages birth to 5 years old during the whole month of March and is designed to promote early literacy. With the help of parents or caregivers, participants will complete worksheets consisting of 12 fun early literacy activities. When all twelve activities are complete, return the activity sheet to the Eau Claire YMCA service desk and choose an adorable little rubber ducky to keep! Keep going and see how many different ducks you can collect!

Wisconsin ArtsWest, an annual juried art exhibit, will open on Sunday, February 23, with an artists reception to be held on Thursday, February 27, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Best of Show and 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes will be announced at the reception. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. Selections for this year’s show are made by Elizabeth Tanenbaum, Director of New Visions Gallery in Marshfield, Wisconsin.

Mechanics of Starting a Small Business

The Western Dairyland Women’s Business Center invites entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners to “Mechanics of Starting a Small Business” on Wednesday, March 19th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Western Dairyland Community Action Agency, 418 Wisconsin Street, Eau Claire. Tuition is $29, including materials. Scholarships are available for income-eligible individuals.
For individuals who know what they want to do and just need to know the practical, logistics for being able to launch their business and begin earning revenue, the “Mechanics of Starting a Small Business” class will cover:
1. Choosing a name for your business:
2. Choosing a legal structure for your business.
3. Identifying license, permit & regulatory requirements
4. Applying for a Federal Tax ID/EIN
5. Wisconsin Business Tax Registration
6. Setting up a bank account and record keeping system
7. Identifying insurance needs
8. Writing and submitting a press release announcing your business
After the class, attendees may request free, one-on-one assistance from Western Dairyland’s Business Development Specialists delving deeper into the individual small business needs, including preparing a business plan with financial forecasting to present to lenders.
