Troubadour Joel Karlsson

Date(s): 6/27/2013

7:00 p.m

Heyde Center for the Arts
Troubadour Joel Karlsson, originally of northern Sweden, is touring the Upper Midwest this summer to share traditional and modern Swedish music. Karlsson says, “With my tour I want to contribute to the interest in Swedish culture and thus create closer links between the Swedish-American union both in Sweden and the U.S. I feel that the Scandinavian song tradition is something very unique - a treasure that should be preserved and kept alive for coming generations.“

Karlsson trained as a music teacher and earned a master’s degree in music from the music universities in Piteå in the north and Växjö in the south of Sweden. He frequently performs in churches, sings the songs of Sweden’s famous troubadours such as Evert Taube and Dan Andersson, and writes his own music, which viewers can see at his web site at www.joelkarlsson.com.

The concert is co-sponsored by the Heyde Center and Norden Folk, which offers programs related to Nordic culture and heritage. Admission: $5 adults, free for youth under 18 years. The musician will also have CDs for sale.
