COMMUNITY BENEFIT TO HELP LOCAL WOMAN, RAISE BRAIN CANCER AWARENESS
Stronger Together: A Benefit for Shelley Steinke will take place on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017 at Fall Creek High School from 11 A.M.-6 P.M. The event will feature family-friendly summer activities including:
• Tractor and car show * (registration required)
• Walk/Run* (registration required)
• Kids’ activities and games
• Cards and Bingo
• Basketball competition
• Bean bag tournament
• Silent auction
• 50/50 raffle
Proceeds of the benefit will help offset the medical costs of local woman Shelley Steinke, a former lab assistant at Mayo Hospital in Eau Claire and mother of 6. Steinke was diagnosed with an inoperable Grade 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma, a rare and malignant brain tumor, in March 2017. As a result of the tumor, she has been unable to work. Steinke has undergone radiation and chemotherapy treatments and awaits the outcome of the treatments so far.
Why a benefit?
Steinke’s family has been thrust into suddenly learning as much as possible about brain cancers, their outcomes and prevention. Not only do they hope to alleviate uncovered costs of her treatments and hospital stays, they want to raise awareness and educate other families about their experience.
Steinke’s stepdaughter Jamie Reinart, the benefit coordinator, says, “We want people to come and enjoy some fun summer activities. It’s as much about celebrating life and health as raising money and awareness.”
The Steinke family also has a GoFundMe where donations will be accepted. Visit gofundme.com/support-for-shelley-steinke.
