Autistic Fundraiser

The WI-Upper Michigan Kiwanis District has adopted a project to help children on the Autism Spectrum. In Eau Claire, the Indianhead Kiwanis Club is fundraising to puirchase iPads for autistic children in the Eau Claire School District Funds raised in Eau Claire will be used specifically for children in the Eau Claire School District. Indianhead Kiwanis is working with School District Special Education professionals to identify potential recipients. Interested parents can get additional information on the Kiwanis website: kiwanisautismproject.org. The average cost for the iPad, sotware app and protective case is $500. Businesses, organizations and individuals can make tax deductible checks payable to: Kiwanis District Foundation and can be mailed to:

Aging & Disability Resource Center is offering Living Well with Chronic Conditions, a self-management program to teach people with chronic illness a healthy way to live with a disease. The six-week program is held Wednesdays, April 10 – May 22, 2013 (no session on May 1), 9-11:30 am at Realife Cooperative, 4415 Jeffers Road, Eau Claire. There is no cost for the workshop, but space is limited. Registration deadline April 3, 2013. Contact Aging & Disability Resource Center (715) 839-4735, 1-888-338-4636, tty: use Relay (711).
Topics covered include: (1) problem solving for dealing with frustration, fatigue, pain, and isolation; (2) exercise for maintaining strength, flexibility, and endurance; (3) appropriate use of medications; (4) communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals; (5) nutrition; and (6) how to evaluate new treatments. Participants will receive a copy of, Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions, 4th Edition, and an audio relaxation CD, Relaxation for Mind and Body.
