Wandering Wisconsin:

Mizizak is a paddle sports business in northern Chippewa County and with a satellite in Eau Claire. We do rent, but what we really do is get people out on the water. We have instructional classes, women's Wednesday, and even our chicken clinic which is for people who are worried about getting out on water. Our classes go all the way to advanced and kayak safety clinic where we learn solo and assisted rescues. We also do river trips and outfitting.

The beginning clinic or women's Wednesday is like kayaking 101. You'll learn the types of boats, the body parts of the boat. There's on-land instruction where you learn how to get in and out of the kayak without dumping over and air paddling. Then we go out on the water and practice the strokes.

Kayaking is going up in popularity and that's why classes are super important. People really need to learn those safety lessons. You don't drive a car with out learning how first and kayaking is as dangerous as driving, but certain conditions and bodies of water are.

Everyone should try kayaking because of the water element. There are 449 lakes in Chippewa County. The waters are gorgeous. It's one of the best ways to do outside immersion .

What people love and what I love is that you can do it yourself. You don't have to depend on your husband, friend or partner. We love that it's social. And everyone loves the water element. The low profile boat puts you so close to the water. It makes your troubles go away. It just washes them clean. A lot of women love the fitness factor. You can burn 660 calories an hour if you really paddle.

People, after they're done kayaking, always have big grins and say 'I did it! I did it!' when they in fact thought they weren't very coordinated or couldn't try kayaking."
