You've probably heard of all kinds of themed getaways. A spa retreat or hunting retreat, but the latest trend in getaways seems to be a craft retreat. These days scrapbookers and quilters are renting homes so they can spark creativity. A Minnesota woman started one of the craft cottages in our area. In this week's Wandering Wisconsin... We go inside Bridge Creek Cottage in Augusta.

This house was built by a Mennonite minister he had 12 children. They're all part of his building company. He bought this lot, built this structure. Knew they weren't going to live here long term. I came along and it was perfect. This is the craft room. There are 20 workstations. And each person can have their own space. It's much more productive because no ones pulling on you.

It's just a great concept great need and I don't think anyone realized how much women would enjoy this kind of a setting. There are plush beds they can stay up as long as they want. The creek runs along., there's a half mile walking path, it's beautiful . It's an actual retreat.

I did a lot of research and the calendars at others across the country were filling up. We have maybe 7 or 8 weekends left in 2007. We have mid-week retreats. I'm trying to reach quilters now. Quilters are figuring out they can come mid-week for less money. Some bring in caterers, massage therapists, or they can cook for themselves. I would say a huge draw is the Minneapolis St. Paul area; but also rural Wisconsin area. Really from all over.

It's been wonderful, a lot of people love the experience. It's a fun time, great time to connect with friends, share our memories pictures and moments with eachother. You learn a lot because you're seeing a snapshot of their everyday lives, their stories.
There are several craft retreat homes in our area. Including two in Chippewa Falls.
