ALMA CENTER, Wis. (WEAU) -- Some classes had to be canceled in the Alma Center, Humbird-Merrillan School District on Monday because of a water main break.
The interim superintendent says a neighbor of Lincoln High School discovered he had brown water around 5:30 a.m. and called the village which then called Diggers Hotline.
The superintendent was notified around 6:30 of the break and says crews were not sure how long it would take to repair, so classes in grades 7-12 were canceled.
"They brought a crew in to repair, they dug a hole, found where it sheered off, put a compression collar around it and probably had the repairs done by 11:00," says Robert Fasbender.
Fasbender says the day will likely be counted as a snow day but it is still being decided and might have to be made up.
The elementary school was not affected.
