It's gone from being too warm to now too cold for the "Winter After Hours" event at Boyd Park in Eau Claire. It was canceled again Thursday evening, but because of the colder weather, there's still something pretty incredible to check out there.

The little saws have been scraping away all day. This is the first week it has been cold enough for Jason Anhorn and Steve Bateman to complete one of their snow sculptures for "Winter After Hours"

"This is the perfect weather for snow carving because you can get extreme detail," says Bateman.

"We started on Tuesday, we filled the mold. Yesterday, we actually just started carving on it, so it's a two day project with this one," says Anhorn.

The guys say this weather is a bit harsh to work in but they dress in layers and warm up after they get to work.

The guys call themselves Starvin' Carvists and have been working together for a few years now competing in Chicago and even taking first place in a snow carving competition in 2008 in Italy.

"Snow sculpting came along as a hobby 8 years ago. Just something to do in the winter," explained Anhorn.

They decided to go with a seahorse this week...something that is recognizable and that can show off plenty of detail. Anhorn explained, "we just kind of brainstorm ideas and we take one and look it up online and get some images. Do a sketch. A lot of times we'll make a clay model, which helps us see what part of the snow block to take out, then just go for it."

Even though winter after hours is canceled again this week, these guys still hope you come down to Boyd Park and check out their creation after spending 20 hours of hard work from start to finish...and here is that finished product! The sculpture will still be around this weekend and the guys hope you can make it next week to see the reveal of their new creation…and every Thursday for winter after hours.

"Just hope for ooos and ahhhs and inspiring people to appreciate a creative endeavor," says Anhorn.
