Milwaukee's no-snow record ends at 288 days

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee's record streak of consecutive days without measureable snow has ended at 288 days.

The city got 1.4 inches of snow Tuesday night at the airport, ending the streak that began March 4. The previous record was 279 days, set in 1999.

Now, like the rest of the state, Milwaukee has to get ready for even more snow. The National Weather Service says a storm that's expected to hit the state late Wednesday into Thursday could dump 12 to 18 inches in central Wisconsin.

Meteorologist Steve Brueski says the heaviest swath will be in a line from Dubuque, Iowa, up through Madison toward Fond du Lac and Green Bay.

He says Milwaukee could get 4 to 5 inches by Friday.
