Tornado destroys home in Grant County

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin emergency management officials say a tornado destroyed a home in southwest Wisconsin on Tuesday night.

Wisconsin Emergency Management spokeswoman Lori Getter said Wednesday that no one was injured when the EF2 tornado struck the home in Bloomington. She says it destroyed a home and damaged four outbuildings.

The National Weather Service says the tornado had winds between 115 and 120 miles per hour, and was on the ground for two minutes. Officials estimate that it traveled two-tenths of a mile and was 70 yards wide.

It touched down around 7:40 p.m. as part of a storm system that rolled across southern Wisconsin bringing rain, hail and strong winds.



Strong thunderstorms moved across Wisconsin last night and early Wednesday morning. The storms produced hail, heavy rains, strong winds ranging from 60-75 mph and a possible tornado in Grant County. No injuries were reported. The storms caused numerous power outages across southern Wisconsin. Most power has been fully restored. Several communities reported 1-2 inches of rain with higher amounts in southwest Wisconsin.

There is a chance for additional thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon..

Grant County –The National Weather Service reported that as the storms moved into southwest Wisconsin, at least one tornado formed in northwest Grant County. Damage was in the Bagley, Bloomington and Patch Grove area.

Grant County Emergency Management reports that one home and several out buildings were destroyed, west of Bloomington. Officials say the family was not injured and are staying with relatives. Further damage assessments are being conducted today but the NWS has issued a preliminary rating of the short-lived tornado as an EF0.

Wisconsin Emergency Management remains engaged with the local officials. The State Emergency Operations Center currently remains at Level 4, monitoring events. While there have been no requests for state assistance, Wisconsin Emergency Management stands ready to help.
