LA CROSSE, Wis (WEAU)- It’s hard to stay cool when putting up tents and getting ready for a crowd, but that’s exactly what many businesses are doing as Riverfest kicks off in La Crosse.

Sprinklers have been set up around Riverside Park to cool down.

“In the center of the park and each end of the park as well as cooling stations that might be needed have been set up,” said 2013 Board of Directors President, Tammy Klein.

But fry cook Zach Fossum doesn’t have the luxury or time to run through the sprinkler so he’s found other ways to cool down.

“I’ll probably lose a couple pounds here. I will definitely sweat a lot. I have a sweat rag that is damp with water and will wipe my forehead with it helps out a lot,” said Fossum.

The five day festival features music, family fun and lots of food.
Many businesses are serving more cool treats this year.

“We will be serving lots of iced drinks to help customers cool down,” said Cabin Coffee Owner, Cathy Bauer.

According to the Board of Directors there is expected to be a large turnout at Riverfest. They are thinking more than 40 thousand people are going to show up despite the heat.

“I think with the heat people might come out in droves out in the evening when it’s cooler,” said Klein.

The fest itself is celebrating it’s 30th year.

“It’s the 30th anniversary and we wanted to recognize our service members,” said Klein.

The festival goes from July 3rd-July 7th.
