After thunderstorms moved through on Monday, the wind picked up and the force of Mother Nature was a little too much for some trees and buildings.

"I knew it was windy, but I didn't think it was that windy to go get a big tree like that you know," Marlene Nezer of Eau Claire said.

Marlene Nezer was just pulling into her driveway Monday morning when the tree snapped.

“Boom, and it was just down," she said.

The old tree that's shaded her front yard for years was lying on top of her house.

"I even got limbs way out on my back deck," she said.

Farther north into Chippewa County near Jim Falls, three trees came to rest on a house.

"I was standing here looking at the river and they just completely folded up and over," the homeowner remembered.

The owner says the waves on Old Abe Lake were getting high and the wind was howling.

"It was loud. Like I said it sounded like a tornado. The wind, I've never seen the wind come off that river like that," she said.

Some people's windy, rainy morning turned into a day of clean up.

"I'm fine. We'll get her fixed and cleaned up," Nezer said.

Our meteorologists say at noon on Monday, winds gusted up to 51 miles per hour at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport.
