LA CROSSE (WEAU) - Snow is moving into the area and much of western Wisconsin had to take a few extra minutes today to brush off their cars. The snow came just in time for the La Crosse Winter Rec Fest.
The fest started Wednesday with the medallion hunt, and will go though next weekend.
The snow will be good for making the medallion hunt trickier as it covers up both the medallion and the clues. But it wasn’t the snow, it was the cold, that Park and Rec Supervisor Jay Odegaard was hoping for.
“I was more so we worried about cold weather. There was a chance it may not be cold enough for our ice fishing derby. But the cold spell that has hit the area last week has made things perfect for our ice fishing derby," said Odegaard.
The medallion hunt comes with a $500 prize. If you happen to find the medallion you must also have a Winter Rec Fest button to claim the prize.
The majority of the events will be next weekend, with fireworks at family fun night, and a Euchre tournament.
