Spring breakers likely disappointed with weather in the Southeast U.S.

The southeast U.S. is a big Spring Break destination this time of year. Unfortunately, the weather is not cooperating for all the spring breakers in that part of country. A large trough centered over the eastern U.S. has been moving slowly and keeping temperatures way below average this week.

Check out these temperatures at 6AM CST this morning on Wednesday. The red numbers are the temperature readings. Many locations dipped down into the 20s and 30s. There were widespread freeze warnings across much of the Southeast.

Highs in this region today only topped out in the upper 50s to low 60s. For us that’d be a heat wave, but for them that’s chilly. Atlanta hit a high today of only 54°. The normal high for today’s date is 68° That’s well below normal, and it’s the same story throughout the area.

Another round of cold weather is expected tonight with more freeze warnings and frost advisories out for the Southeast. The good news is temperatures will be climbing in the coming days with highs in Atlanta getting to more seasonable levels by the weekend. Then another blast of cold air works in for next week…basically a cruel April Fool’s prank. As you can see by the graphic below, temperatures look to be below normal for much of next week for a majority of the country.

Not only has winter been stubborn for us here in Western Wisconsin, but across much of the nation.
