Australia sizzling in record summer heat

Australia is continuing to bake in one of the hottest summers on record on that continent. Just yesterday on January 7th, Australia recorded its highest temperature averaged over the whole country. The average high temperature for the date was 105 degrees, which beats out the old record of 104 degrees set back on December 21, 1972.

Remember, while the we in the northern hemisphere are in the dead of winter. Down in the southern hemisphere it is the heart of summer.

In over 100 years of record keeping, never before has Australia seen such a long-lasting, wide spread, and severe heat wave. The country's average high temperature exceeded 102 degrees for 5 days in a row from January 2-6. That's the first time that's happened since record keeping began.

The heat has been bad news for fire conditions in Australia. Southeastern Tasmania has been dealing with a wildfire that torched at least 100 homes a few days ago.

Meanwhile, up north in china. They're seeing the coldest temperatures there in 28 years.
