Dry Pattern Could Return

Since April15th Eau Claire has received just over 4.5” of rain. Due to the well above-normal rainfall during the time period, the drought situation has dramatically improved in Western Wisconsin. The moderate drought was improved to abnormally dry across the SkyWarn 13 viewing area. Top soil moisture has been steadily improving, which is good news for local farmers. Corn and soybean planting is well above the 5 years average for this time of year.

Now some bad news/good news, the next 7 to 10 days could be rather dry in Western Wisconsin. A ridge of high pressure will move into the region, and create calm and quite conditions. Long range models are trying to bring some rain into Wisconsin by late next week, but mostly sunny skies, a southerly flow, and areas with light soil may dry out quickly. The good news is, 1st crop hay is almost ready to cut, and nice sunny days are perfect for drying hay.
