It’s Flood Safety Awareness Week across the country. It floods nearly every day of the year somewhere in the United States. On average over the past 30 years, floods have claimed the lives of about 90 people annually, and caused about $8 billion in damage. This is the week to review safety procedures and have a plan, should a flood strike your community.
Here in Western Wisconsin we have a slightly elevated risk of flooding this spring. The severity will be determined based on the speed at which the snow melts, ice jams, and future storm systems this spring.
