March 2013 is one of the warmest for Las Vegas

For many parts of the country, March was just an extension of winter pretty much. This wasn’t the case everywhere though. The southwest U.S. had one of its warmest March's on record. This was great news for Jenny You and myself. We both took a vacation to Las Vegas in March. Not to brag but the weather was fantastic! I experienced sunny weather with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. When Jenny went to Vegas just last week highs were well into the 80s each day. With no humidity, that kind of weather makes it tough to come home. It was a rude awakening when I stepped off the plane in our lay over in Chicago.

We lucked out because Vegas weather in March can be vastly different. It could have been rainy and far colder. Here’s a picture of the Las Vegas Strip I took. I’ll include a link at the bottom to more pictures if you’re interested. It was an awesome trip. I’ll have to do a blog post solely on going to Zion National Park. It was an incredible experience.

The warmest March weather for Las Vegas occurred just before my trip between the 14th and the 16th. On the 15th, the temperature for the month would max out at 87 degrees…toasty! That was one of 9 days spent in the 80s.

The average temperature was 64.8° making it the second warmest March on record. Mild nights contributed the most to making it such a warm month. Average minimum temperatures were second warmest on record while average maximum temperatures were ninth warmest.

The reason for the unseasonably warm weather was due to a large area of high pressure that centered itself over or just off shore of California. That turned any storm systems away from the Southern Great Basin keeping Las Vegas dry and warm. We definitely got lucky planning our trips for when we did! Check out this comparison! Here are the high temperatures for each of the days I was in Vegas compared to the same days last year. Would have been much less fun if I did this last year!

A: DATE
B: 2013 Highs
C: 2012 Highs

A B C
3/16 86 76
3/17 81 66
3/18 77 54
3/19 79 55
3/20 76 62
3/21 79 73

Above normal temperatures will continue in April for the area along with the dry weather. So I made you jealous at all with this blog post, now’s the time for you to plan a trip to Sin City! The bad news for the area though is drought looks to spread through much of the Southwest.
