Wisconsin is known for extreme winter and summer temperatures. The all-time record high temp for Eau Claire and for the state of Wisconsin was set on July 13th 1936. Eau Claire hit 111 degrees on the 13th and 14th. The all-time state record is 114 degrees set in Wisconsin Dells. The July 1936 heat wave may be broken. 11 days in a row, Eau Claire had temps over 100 degrees. The death toll exceeded 5,000(nation wide), and huge numbers of crops were destroyed by the heat and lack of moisture. Many state and city record high temperatures set during the 1936 heat wave still stand to this day. The heat wave followed one of the coldest winters on record.
