Shrinking snow pack in Western Wisconsin

Last week as shown below the snow pack across the state was probably at it's greatest extent and greatest depth across much of Wisconsin. A little over 30% of the country was snow covered...

Here in Wisconsin after highs in the 50s and 60s earlier in the week and a second big surge of warm air this weekend the snow pack has been diminished greatly. Now fast forward to today, Sunday the 11th. Check out the snow cover for the nation and a closer look into Wisconsin below from today. Snow cover across the country has been cut in half. In Wisconsin, the snow cover is regulated to only the northern couple tiers of counties.

On Saturday in Eau Claire, we broke the record high of 61 in 1977. We topped out at 64 degrees! We smashed the record high in Eau Claire for today. We topped out at 66! The old record is only 60 back just in 2006. La Crosse also broke a record high today as well. More record breaking warm weather is on the way for this upcoming week, but first some much needed rain. The rain will also help to get rid of the remaining snow pack this week. Then after the rain tonight into Monday, temperatures will surge getting into the 70s by Wednesday. The rest of the week into the weekend looks warm as well with highs in the 70s or at least near 70. I guess it is called March Madness for a reason! Enjoy the warm weather!
