Spring has been completely unable to take hold in western Wisconsin this year, and due to all the grumbling I've been subject to recently, it's clear that the percentage of people who are happy about the recent weather is now less than two percent. Just remember, people: I'm only the messenger here. If I had any control over the weather, I'd be a rich, rich man and would probably be working for the government in some undisclosed location in a bunker.
So suffice to say, snow was not a welcome sight to most people on Monday. Eau Claire picked up 3" of snow, but some other spots (like Osseo and Merrillan, for example) got 6"+! Looking at the record books, I found the last time three or more inches of snow fell in Eau Claire later than April 28th was, well, never. (OK, may "never" is too strong a word. The data I've got readily available to me goes back to 1976.) We've had measurable snowfall on the 28th a couple of times (3.2" back in 2002 was the most recent occurrence), but not after that. So that's promising, right?
The rest of the week will bring some milder temps initially before another big, slow-moving storm brings cool, wet and windy weather back to western Wisconsin by the end of the workweek and through the coming weekend. Once this thing finally gets out of here next week, let's hope spring can finally move in behind it.
