The month of April in the Chippewa Valley was below average on temperature and above average on precipitation. The month had an average monthly temperature of 43.3 which was 1.6 degrees below average. The coldest high temperature was 35 on the 12th. The high temperature for the month was 78 on the 21st. Last April the warmest temperature was 88 degrees.
April was also had its share of rain and snow. 4.16 inches of precipitation was reported, which was 1.25 inches above average. With above average precipitation and below average temperatures across much of Western Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest spring planting is behind. The window for planting crops is still wide open in the Upper Midwest, but there are not too many years if you take HWY 29 from Eau Claire to Shawano on the first weekend in May and not see one field planted.
