25-year-old charged after vehicle chase in Eau Claire Co.
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - A 25-year-old homeless man is charged with recklessly endangering safety after law enforcement officers say he led them on a high speed chase in Eau Claire County.
Nathan Starks is also facing several other charges, including possession of meth.
According to the criminal complaint, officers with the Eau Claire Police Department saw a car going east on Clairemont Avenue on Saturday, June 27 without license plates.
When officers tried to stop the vehicle, they say Starks sped up and reached speeds of 80 mph.
At one point the vehicle slowed down, and a passenger got out of the car.
A deputy with the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office was then able to deploy spike strips, damaging the vehicle’s tires as the chase continued through Fall Creek on Highway 12.
Law enforcement officers say Starks made an abrupt turn, drove into the ditch, and got stuck. He was taken into custody.
According to the criminal complaint, he stated, “I am high.” and “Let’s do it again, that was fun.”
A cash bond is set at $1,000.
Starks is scheduled to appear in court on September 8.
