ECCT takes summer production outdoors
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - Despite COVID-19 getting in the way of daily life, one local theater production is still finding a way to perform. The show is still going on for the Eau Claire Children’s Theater’s production of “Newsies.”
ECCT is taking their show outdoors to the Northern Wisconsin State Fair grounds for three nights at 7:30 p.m. on Jul. 22-24.
Rusty Volk, NWSF Executive Director says he has been working closely with the Chippewa Falls Health Department to get things set up safely. He says the performances will look and feel a bit different than usual.
"Customers will bring their own chairs so we don't have to worry about providing chairs for them, wiping chairs off. It'll be their own. All the units, the family units we're calling them, they will all be 6 feet apart. At least 6 feet apart."
While people attending the shows are required to social distance either by the main stage or in the grand stand, masks are recommended, but not required. Although, organizers say performers will be wearing masks.
"Most people are familiar with the cloth or disposable masks people are wearing now," said ECCT Executive Director Wayne Marek. "These are what we call communicator masks so they have kind of a clear plastic front to them. So still protective, but you are able to see the performers entire face."
Organizers say it will be a different experience for the audience and performers, but nonetheless it will be a great way for people to finally enjoy a summer event in a safe manner.
