MADISON, Wis. (WEAU) - Gov. Tony Evers opened the news conference announcing that six communities have been selected as broadband connector starter area. He added that the longer that it takes to diminish the virus spread, the longer it will take to bring back up the local economy.

DHS officials say the daily case numbers have quadrupled in the last six weeks

162,325 positive cases, an increase of 3,747 over Wednesday. This is a new daily record

1,553 total deaths, meaning 17 more people have died since Wednesday

Health officials and the Gov. yet again pleaded that Wisconsin residents use mitigation strategies to slow the spread of the virus as the state is still seeing record setting days.

Evers added that President Trump or any other person visiting Wisconsin for a political rally would create a “super spreader” event and would spread the wrong message.

Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services are scheduled to give a COVID-19 update at 1:30 p.m.
